Dallas Public Transit Survives the 89th Legislature, but we are not done yet
The Dallas Area Transit Alliance (DATA) is elated to announce that HB 3187 and SB 1557, a bill that would divert 25% of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) sales tax revenue, are dead.
The bills failed to meet deadlines within the House and Senate to advance in each chamber, and ultimately, with the session ending on Monday, it is impossible for the bills to make any further progress.
We want to thank all the elected representatives who have supported maintaining full funding for DART, and all the citizen advocates who lent their voice to this cause. Your voice, calls, emails, and letters were monumental in stopping the bill from progressing any further.
We’d like to invite our members to our End of Lege Social on Saturday, June 7th 7:00 pm at Pegasus Brewery Company (1508 Commerce St, Dallas, TX 75201).
But our fight is not over yet...
Here is what is next for DATA.
As you may know, DART created a plan called the 5% General Mobility Program (GMP) to appease the cities that filed legislation, particularly Plano. However, this program would require DART to cut 9 bus routes, multiple Go-Link zones, and reduce bus and rail service across the board. This would be a devastating cut to the entire transit network in DFW.
The bus routes cut would be 209 – McKinney/Cole, 225 – Nursery, 234 – Parker Road, 242 – Walnut Hill, 254 – Legacy, 255 – Story Road, 305 – Addison Express, 378 – Red Bird Express, 383 – Lake Ray Hubbard Express. In addition, the South Dallas GoLink would be discontinued and all Zone-to-Zone pilots of GoLink would end. (However, Plano and Addison would still get their city-wide GoLink zone, if the Zone-to-Zone pilot ends). A full chart of the changes is listed below, as well as the comparison of services from 2025 to 2026.
Our position at DATA is that the cuts being proposed to fund the 5% GMP are unacceptable; the impact on the entire network would negatively and severely affect every single rider of DART. If the GMP is unavoidable, we respectfully ask DART to find outside funding for the GMP, such as through the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG).
The next few weeks will be equally as important as it was during the legislative session. DART is holding several meetings ahead of the service changes hearing on July 8, 2025. We want our members and fellow advocates out in full force at these pre-public meetings and at the main hearing date to oppose these cuts.
If you can’t attend any of these meetings you can email DART_Townhall@DART.org with your feedback.
